How to interpret and use this data

The postcode data of the GMSBML Portal Dashboard provides benchmark prevalence data on the population of people who attend GP’s in the GMSBML. All postcode data is expressed as percentage reflecting the geo-epidemiological prevalence of diabetes/undiagnosed diabetes/prediabetes. The prevalence is further displayed and compared against the GMSBML and QLD.

The format used is designed to reflect the data extraction that would occur in a practice using an audit tool allowing us to compare our practices against community data. This is not our own individual data but is meant to encourage us to reflect and ask the question “what is the prevalence in my patient base”? We believe in this way we can change what we know and manage what we measure.

We are able to deselect groups and focus on the group of interest and engage in process of asking how we rationalize the results.

With each postcode, age and gender results reported help to highlight high risk age and gender groups. We can use this opportunity to take action and target groups with high prevalence rates and high CVD risks.

At an ML level, each doctor will have, for every 4 diabetes patients diagnosed, at least another 1 with abnormal BGL’s in the diabetes range potentially.

Each doctor will have, for every 11 diabetes patients diagnosed, at least 18 patients with abnormal BGL’s in the pre diabetes range (primary prevention) and another 13 in the dysglycaemia range.

How to use the Postcode Interrogation

Compare postcode/s. You can insert up to 4 postcodes for comparison. Each postcode will be represented as a bar with percentage by age contributing to the prevalence rate. Further drilldown by gender is available. The age and gender panel allows assessment of gender impact on prevalence for increased awareness and call to action. We can easily identify which age group, gender has the highest prevalence in the community in which we work encouraging us to reflect and audit our own patient base to answer the question “what is the geo-epidemiological prevalence in the patients under my care”?
